Postgraduate Year One Pharmacy Residency (PGY1)

The Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program at United Regional Health Care System in Wichita Falls, Texas is a 12-month program designed to prepare residents to become proficient, independent pharmacy clinical practitioners in diverse clinical practice settings. Upon completion of the program, residents will be eligible for board certification and for postgraduate practice.

Program Overview

Rotations

Required Concentration Rotations

  • Orientation (5 weeks)
  • Pharmacy operation (4 weeks)
  • Internal Medicine I & II (4 weeks each)
  • Critical Care I & II (4 weeks each)
  • Emergency Medicine (4 weeks)
  • Infectious Disease I & II (4 weeks each)
  • Pharmacy Informatics (4 weeks)

Elective Rotation

  • Infusion Services (4 weeks)
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition (4 weeks)
  • Repeat required concentrated rotation (4 weeks each)

Required Longitudinal Rotation

  • Central staffing (11 months. 1-month at 40 hours per week then 10-months 8 hours per week) 
  • Pharmacy Education
  • Major Project (52 weeks) -- projects are primarily retrospective review of medication utilization.
  • Pharmacy Practice Longitudinal (one afternoon per week) 
    • Financial and budget management 
    • Clinical Management and medication safety
    • Operation management

Staffing

Residents must obtain a Pharmacist License within eight weeks of beginning the program. After licensure, residents will be required to staff eight hours a week.
