X-Ray & Fluoroscopy
United Regional offers advanced diagnostic imaging through X-ray and fluoroscopy — a real-time imaging technique that uses continuous X-rays — ensuring timely and accurate diagnoses. At United Regional, no referral is needed for an X-ray; however, an order is required to schedule your exam at a time that’s most convenient for you.
How can United Regional’s X-ray & fluoroscopy services help you?
United Regional provides high-quality diagnostic imaging with a focus on patient convenience and clinical accuracy. We’re happy to provide the following services, so that you may begin your healing as quickly as possible:
X-ray
X-ray imaging uses invisible electromagnetic energy beams to produce detailed images of bones, organs, and internal tissues. At United Regional, X-rays are performed using external radiation that passes through the body and captures digital images on specially treated plates. These images appear in varying shades of black and white, depending on how different tissues absorb the radiation. X-rays are a foundational diagnostic tool, supporting timely and accurate clinical decisions.
Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy is a dynamic imaging technique that captures real-time movement of internal structures using continuous X-ray beams. Unlike traditional X-rays that produce still images, fluoroscopy functions like a video, allowing our providers to observe your organs and systems in motion. This method is particularly useful for evaluating the cardiovascular, reproductive, and digestive systems. At United Regional, fluoroscopy is often used during barium procedures to see how contrast material moves through your body in real time. This real-time view helps your care team make more accurate diagnoses and plan the right treatment
Barium Swallow
At United Regional, a barium swallow is an X-ray exam that helps your care team see how your upper digestive system works. It focuses on the pharynx and the esophagus. These areas aren’t easily visible on a standard X-ray, so we use a liquid called barium sulfate to highlight them. Fluoroscopy is often used during this test to show how the barium moves through your body as you swallow. This helps your care team make clearer, more accurate decisions about your health.
Barium Enema
A barium enema is an X-ray exam of the lower gastrointestinal tract. The large intestine, including the rectum, is made visible by filling the colon with a liquid called barium sulfate. Barium blocks X-ray radiation to highlight areas that would normally appear faint.
Upper Gastrointestinal Series
An upper gastrointestinal (GI) series is a comprehensive radiographic examination of the upper GI tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum — the first part of the small intestine. The procedure uses a liquid suspension of barium or a water-soluble contrast agent to highlight these structures on X-ray or fluoroscopy. When only the pharynx and esophagus are examined, the test is referred to as a barium swallow. If a water-soluble contrast is used instead of barium, the procedure is called a Gastrografin swallow.
Our Approach to X-ray & Fluoroscopy
At United Regional, we combine clinical precision with patient-centered care. Our X-ray services produce high-resolution still images, while fluoroscopy offers real-time imaging to observe body functions in motion. These tools are essential for diagnosing a wide range of conditions and are performed with a focus on safety, efficiency, and patient comfort.
